Character AI Plus benefits and c.ai+ vs Lite, what $9.99 a month buys

If Character AI is showing you an upgrade screen, the useful question is not what c.ai+ costs. It is what the extra money buys over the cheaper Lite tier, because since the autumn there are three levels, not two, and most articles ranking for this still describe a two-tier product.

The short answer

Character AI Plus (c.ai+) costs $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year, and character.ai's own subscribe page, read on 20 October 2026, now lists its benefits against two other tiers, Free and Lite. Plus gets no ads, no slow mode, the "Best" memory level, 30 memory pins, the advanced Lorebook, full access to the premium chat styles DeepSqueak and LongSqueak, the highest daily feature limits, 20% bonus Charms, priority access to new features and premium support. Lite gets "Better" memory, the same 30 pins, fewer ads, less slow mode and a "Daily taste" of the premium styles. Apple lists Lite at $4.99 and $2.49 without printing a billing period, and the web page shows no Lite price at all. Tempted.ai is one flat plan from $9 a month with long-term memory included and no tiers to compare.

What makes her feel real

Memory should not be the expensive tier

Memory is not a tier

Long-term memory is part of every Tempted.ai plan. There is no Better or Best level to pay your way up to.

No slow mode, no daily caps

Nothing on Tempted.ai is rationed by the day, so there is nothing to top up with a currency.

One price, published

Every plan and price sits on our pricing page, the same on every device.

What Character AI Plus gets you, row by row

Character AI publishes its benefits as a grid on the subscribe page, with a column for Free, a column for Lite and a column for c.ai+. It is the most complete statement of what Plus buys that the company has ever put in public, and it replaced the shorter two-column list that sat there in the summer.

Read top to bottom, the c.ai+ column says this. Ads: None. Basic chat styles PipSqueak 3 and ShortSqueak: included, as they are for everyone. Premium chat styles DeepSqueak and LongSqueak: included. Memory: Best. Pins: 30. Memory usage: Detailed. Lorebook: Adv. Feature limits: Highest. Slow mode: None. Chat customization: included. Feature access: Priority. Bonus Charms: +20%. Premium support: included.

The yearly card beside the grid boils that down to four lines: "No ads", "Best memory", "Unlimited top models" and "Chat customization". Those four are the honest summary. Ads, memory and the better models are what most people are paying for, and the rest is either a convenience or a perk for heavy users.

  • No ads, against full ads on Free and fewer on Lite
  • Best memory, 30 pins, detailed memory usage, advanced Lorebook
  • Full DeepSqueak and LongSqueak, the premium chat styles
  • No slow mode, highest daily limits, 20% bonus Charms

Character AI Lite vs c.ai+, the middle tier with no web price

Character AI Lite is a cheaper subscription that sits between Free and c.ai+. When we first found it in August, it existed only in Apple's in-app purchase list. It is now a full column on character.ai's own grid, which makes the comparison possible for the first time.

On that grid Lite gets more than you might expect. It has the same 30 memory pins as Plus, the same detailed memory usage, chat customization and "Some new" feature access. Where it stops short is everywhere that costs Character AI compute. Memory is "Better" rather than "Best". The premium chat styles are a "Daily taste" rather than unlimited. Slow mode is "Less" rather than none. Ads are "Less" rather than none. Daily feature limits stay "Limited". The Lorebook stays basic, there are no bonus Charms and no premium support.

The price is the odd part. The web page prints no Lite price anywhere. Apple's US list, read on 20 October 2026, shows two entries named Character.AI Lite, at $4.99 and $2.49, and like many apps in this category it prints no billing period beside them. News coverage of the launch described the two prices as a monthly and a weekly option, but Character AI has not published that, so treat the period as unconfirmed until you see it on your own checkout screen. If $2.49 turns out to be weekly, it costs about $129 a year, more than a year of c.ai+.

  • Lite matches Plus on pins, memory usage and customization
  • Lite falls short on memory level, ads, slow mode and premium styles
  • Apple lists Lite at $4.99 and $2.49 with no billing period
  • No Lite price appears on character.ai itself

What Best memory, Pins and Lorebook actually mean

Memory is the row most people upgrade for, and it is also the row where Character AI says the least in numbers. The grid grades it in words: Basic on Free, Better on Lite, Best on c.ai+. There is no published context length for any tier, so nobody outside the company can tell you how many messages back each level reaches. Any article quoting a token figure for c.ai+ is quoting a guess.

Pins are more concrete. A pin is a message you mark so the character keeps it in view, and the grid caps Free at 15 and both paid tiers at 30. That is the one memory number Character AI does publish, and it is the same for Lite and Plus, so if pins are how you manage a long story, Lite already gives you the full allowance.

Memory usage is Basic on Free and Detailed on both paid tiers, which suggests paid users see more about what the character is drawing on. The Lorebook, a place to store world and character facts, is Basic on Free and Lite and "Adv." only on c.ai+. If you run large worlds with many characters, the advanced Lorebook is the one memory feature that is exclusive to Plus.

If memory is the whole reason you are shopping, test it rather than trusting the label. Give the character three unrelated details today, wait a day, and ask an open question that needs them. That two-day test works on any app, ours included.

  • Memory is graded Basic, Better, Best with no published size
  • Pins: 15 free, 30 on both Lite and Plus
  • Advanced Lorebook is the memory feature only Plus gets
  • Run a two-day recall test before paying for a memory tier

DeepSqueak, LongSqueak and the premium chat styles

Character AI calls its models chat styles. Two are basic and free for everyone: PipSqueak 3 and ShortSqueak. Two are premium: DeepSqueak and LongSqueak. On the grid, Free gets neither premium style, Lite gets a "Daily taste" of each, and c.ai+ gets them included, which the yearly card describes as "Unlimited top models".

This is the clearest functional difference between Lite and Plus. A daily taste means the better styles run out partway through a day of heavy use and you drop back to the basic ones. If you only chat for a few minutes in the evening, a taste may be all you ever use. If you chat for hours, Plus is the tier where the better styles stay on.

Character AI does not publish how large the daily taste is, and the allowance is the kind of number vendors adjust quietly, so we are not going to put a figure on it. What the grid does establish is the order of value. Free users never touch the premium styles, Lite users sample them, and Plus users keep them.

  • Basic styles PipSqueak 3 and ShortSqueak are free for all
  • DeepSqueak and LongSqueak are premium
  • Lite gets a daily taste, Plus gets them included
  • The size of the daily taste is not published

Character AI Plus price, monthly vs yearly

c.ai+ costs $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year. The subscribe page, read on 20 October 2026, now opens on the yearly option, shows $119.88 struck through beside $94.99 and labels the toggle "save 21%". Underneath sits the line "Subscription auto-renews yearly. Cancel in settings anytime."

The arithmetic checks out. $119.88 is twelve months at $9.99, so the yearly plan saves $24.89, a little under 21%, and works out to about $7.92 a month. Apple's US in-app purchase list shows the same two figures for products named Character.AI+, $9.99 and $94.99, so the store and the website agree.

Two things to weigh before you take the yearly plan. The default now is yearly, so check which toggle is selected before you tap Subscribe. And Lite exists, so if you only want fewer ads and a bit more memory, a cheaper tier may cover it. Charms, the in-app currency, are a separate purchase on every tier; Plus adds 20% to each pack but does not include any.

  • $9.99 a month, or $94.99 a year (about $7.92 a month)
  • The page now defaults to the yearly toggle
  • Apple and character.ai show the same two prices
  • Charms are bought separately, Plus adds a 20% bonus

Bonus Charms and what the currency still costs on Plus

Charms are Character AI's in-app currency, and Plus does not remove them. It adds a bonus. The grid lists "+20%" bonus Charms for c.ai+ and nothing for Free or Lite, which means a Plus subscriber gets more Charms from the same pack.

Apple's US list, read on 20 October 2026, shows the packs from a Starter Pack at $0.99 through Small at $2.99, Medium at $4.99, Large at $9.99 and Extra Large at $24.99, up to an Extra Extra Extra Large Pack at $99.99. Charms are what you spend on the things the daily limits ration, which is why the "Feature limits" row matters: Free and Lite are "Limited", Plus is "Highest". Highest is still a limit, not unlimited.

Charms also carry their own legal terms. Character AI's Charms Terms of Use make purchases final, forfeit any balance if the account closes, and let the company change the value of Charms at any time. A 20% bonus on a currency the issuer can revalue is a perk, not a saving, and it is not a reason on its own to subscribe.

  • Plus adds 20% to every Charms pack
  • Packs run from $0.99 to $99.99 on Apple
  • Plus raises daily limits to Highest, not unlimited
  • Charms are final sale and forfeited if the account closes

What c.ai+ does not change

A subscription changes speed, memory level, models and ads. It does not change what the platform allows. Character AI's content rules prohibit sexually explicit chat on every tier, and the grid has no row suggesting Plus relaxes them. If the filter is your frustration, paying will not fix it.

It also does not change the shape of the product. Character AI is a library of millions of user-made characters, built for browsing, starting new chats and roleplay. That is a real strength, and with 560,018 US App Store ratings at 4.27 on 20 October 2026, it is by far the biggest app in this category. But a library is not the same thing as one companion who keeps track of your life, and no tier turns one into the other.

Nor does Plus make the app start conversations with you. You open a chat, the character answers.

  • Content rules are the same on every tier
  • Still a character library, not one ongoing companion
  • Characters do not message you first
  • 560,018 US ratings at 4.27, read 20 October 2026

Who should buy Plus, who should buy Lite, and who should skip both

Buy c.ai+ if you use Character AI for hours most days, run long roleplays or big worlds, and keep running into the daily taste of DeepSqueak or LongSqueak. You are the user Plus is priced for, and the yearly plan at about $7.92 a month is one of the cheaper paid tiers in this category. The advanced Lorebook is a real reason on its own if you build worlds.

Try Lite if you mainly want fewer ads, 30 pins and a step up in memory, and you chat for shorter sessions. On the grid it delivers most of what casual users upgrade for. Check the billing period on the checkout screen before you confirm.

Skip both if what you want is a girlfriend rather than a character library. That is what Tempted.ai is built for: one companion with long-term memory included on every plan, who texts you first on the $19 Flame plan, with no currency, no ads and no daily limits. It starts at $9 a month billed yearly or $12 month to month. It is text companionship, tasteful rather than explicit, and we say plainly that Character AI wins on variety. If browsing characters is the point, stay where you are and pick the tier that matches how long you chat.

  • Plus: daily heavy users, long roleplay, world builders
  • Lite: shorter sessions, fewer ads, more pins
  • Neither: you want one girlfriend who remembers you
  • Tempted.ai from $9 a month, memory on every plan

Character AI Lite is a cheaper subscription between Free and c.ai+. It gets better memory, 30 pins, fewer ads, less slow mode, chat customization and a daily taste of the premium chat styles. Apple lists it at $4.99 and $2.49 without a billing period, and character.ai's own page shows no Lite price.
Plus gets best memory instead of better, unlimited DeepSqueak and LongSqueak instead of a daily taste, no ads and no slow mode instead of less of each, the advanced Lorebook, the highest daily limits, 20% bonus Charms and premium support. Lite matches Plus on pins, memory usage and chat customization.
c.ai plus is worth it if you chat for hours most days and keep running out of the premium chat styles, because unlimited DeepSqueak and LongSqueak is the main thing Lite does not give you. For short sessions, Lite or the free tier covers most needs. Paying never changes the content rules.
Yes. character.ai's grid rates memory Basic on Free, Better on Lite and Best on c.ai+, and adds an advanced Lorebook only on c.ai+. It publishes no context length for any tier, so the improvement is a label, not a number. Pins are 30 on both Lite and Plus, against 15 on Free.
Yes. The grid lists ads as "None" for c.ai+, "Less" for Lite and "Full" for the free tier. The yearly plan card also lists "No ads" first. Removing ads is one of the four headline c.ai+ benefits, alongside best memory, unlimited top models and chat customization.
