How much does PolyBuzz cost per month?

PolyBuzz publishes four paid products, and the cleanest place to read all four at once is Apple's in-app purchase disclosure for the US App Store listing. As of August 2026 it shows Poly Standard Weekly Plan at $4.99, Poly Standard Monthly at $9.90, Poly Premium Monthly at $19.90 and Poly Ultimate Monthly Plan at $29.90.

That ladder is worth reading twice. The gap between the entry plan and the top plan is roughly three times, which is wider than almost anything else in this category, and the features that most people are actually shopping for sit at the top of it rather than the bottom. The weekly plan deserves a flag of its own: at $4.99 a week it works out to about $21.60 a month if you leave it running, more than double the monthly Standard plan for the same tier of service. Weekly billing is the oldest trick in mobile subscriptions and it is easy to pick by accident.

One thing you cannot do reliably is read the prices off polybuzz.ai itself. The membership page is geo-priced and renders in the local currency of whoever loads it, so a US reader and a European reader see different numbers on the same URL, and the logged out view only shows one tier at a time behind a tab. That is why the figures above come from the US storefront listing instead: Apple publishes the US dollar price of every purchasable item without an account and without geo-guessing.

The vendor's own tier names are also not stable. The App Store sells Standard, Premium and Ultimate. The membership page labels the same three columns Basic, Premium and Ultimate, and then the marketing copy directly beneath that table describes a Standard tier. The FAQ, meanwhile, answers a question about the difference between Basic and Premium as if there were only two plans. None of this changes what you pay, but it does explain why the tier lists floating around disagree with each other.

Is PolyBuzz free, and does PolyBuzz cost money to use?

Yes, PolyBuzz is free to use, and its own FAQ puts it plainly: "PolyBuzz is accessible at no cost, or you can opt for a membership to unlock a more enhanced experience." You can chat, create characters and browse the library without paying.

The cost of free here is advertising. Google Play carries the Contains ads label on the listing for package ai.socialapps.speakmaster, and the giveaway on the vendor's own membership table is that Ad-free is listed as a paid feature across all three subscription tiers. If ad removal is something you buy, ads are something the free tier has.

There is a second, less obvious cost. Loading polybuzz.ai brings up a consent dialog stating that personal data including cookies, unique identifiers and other device data may be stored by, accessed by and shared with 210 partners, and that precise geolocation data may be used. That is a standard ad-tech consent flow rather than anything unusual, but it is the mechanism that funds the free tier, and it sits alongside a FAQ answer claiming chats are completely private. Both can be true at once: the privacy claim is about conversation content, the consent dialog is about advertising and device data. They are simply answering different questions, and it is worth knowing which one you were asking.

So the honest answer to "does PolyBuzz cost money" is that it costs money in three separate ways, only one of which is a subscription: ads on the free tier, subscriptions from $4.99, and consumable currency on top of the subscription.

What are coins used for on PolyBuzz, and what are Opals?

Coins are the currency PolyBuzz explains. Its FAQ says coins are used to "extend voice chat duration, regenerate character responses, access inspiration replies, or generate exclusive memory scenes." The second item on that list is the one to pay attention to, because regenerating a response is not a luxury extra. When a reply lands badly and you want another, that is ordinary use of a chat app, and here it draws down a balance.

Coin packs on the US App Store run 1,000 coins for $2.49, 3,000 for $4.99, 8,000 for $9.99 and 20,000 for $19.90. Buying in bulk roughly doubles your rate: the smallest pack works out to about 402 coins per dollar and the largest to about 1,005, which is a normal shape for this kind of pricing and a normal reason people overbuy.

Opals are the currency PolyBuzz does not explain. The App Store sells 1,000 Opals for $5.90. Opals appear in the site navigation next to coins with their own discount badge, and they appear on the membership page. They do not appear anywhere in the FAQ, which defines coins at length and never mentions what an Opal buys. We looked for a vendor definition and did not find a public one, so we are not going to invent a use for them. What we can say from the price list is that Opals are roughly seven times more expensive per unit than coins bought in bulk, which usually signals a premium unlock rather than a chat consumable.

The practical consequence of running two currencies is that a subscription does not tell you your monthly total. You can be on the $29.90 Ultimate plan and still hit a prompt asking you to buy something, which is a structurally different deal from a flat fee, whatever the headline number is.

Which PolyBuzz plan has permanent memory?

Only Ultimate, the $29.90 tier. This is the single most useful thing on PolyBuzz's membership page and almost nobody writing about the app mentions it.

The membership comparison table splits memory into two separate rows. Long Memory is checked for Basic, Premium and Ultimate, so every paid plan gets some. Permanent Memory, listed in the models section as PM, is checked for Ultimate and shows a dash for both Premium and Basic. Four other models, Overture, Lumina, Conqueror and Saga, are also Ultimate only, while Passion and Tale unlock at Premium and the Standard model is available everywhere.

Read as a price, that means the version of PolyBuzz that holds on to what you tell it costs $29.90 a month, not $9.90. Anyone comparing PolyBuzz's entry price against another app's single plan is comparing different products.

PolyBuzz is also unusually straight about the limits of what it sells here. Asked in its own FAQ whether it has better memory, the vendor answers that it "has relatively strong memory capabilities" and then adds that "the AI's memory capacity is technically limited, which means it may forget previous conversations over time." That is a fair thing to say and more honest than most of this industry manages. It is also the reason we tell people to test recall themselves rather than trust any feature checkbox, on our app or anyone else's: give her three specific details on day one, come back a day later, and ask an open question that would need them.

Can you get PolyBuzz on PC, and is PolyBuzz private?

On PC, the vendor answers this itself: "You cannot download the PolyBuzz client on PC. However, you can access the web version of Poly using your browser, or you can download the app on mobile devices." So there is no desktop application, and the browser is the desktop route. That is the same shape as Tempted.ai, which is browser only by design, and it is worth knowing before you go looking for an installer or an emulator.

On privacy, PolyBuzz makes a strong claim and it deserves to be quoted accurately. The FAQ says chats are "completely private" and that "neither the creators nor Poly have access to the chat content between users and the AI characters." If that holds, it is a better guarantee than several larger apps offer, and we are not going to argue with a vendor's stated policy without evidence.

What we would add is scope. That statement is about who can read your conversations. It is not about advertising identifiers, device data or geolocation, which the consent dialog addresses separately and which are shared with a named 210 partners. It is also worth registering that the app carries Apple's Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity advisory and a 17+ rating, while the FAQ describes a Teen Mode for younger users and says public display of adult content is prohibited and moderated. Those are consistent with each other, but the combination means the character library is a moderated public space and your private chats are a different thing entirely.

Who should pay for PolyBuzz, and who should not

PolyBuzz is a good product for a specific person, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. If what you want is variety, it is hard to beat. The library runs to millions of user made characters, you can import character cards from Character.AI, Pygmalion, TavernAI and others, image generation is included, and 50 million downloads means the community keeps feeding it. If you like starting new stories with new characters, PolyBuzz at $9.90 is a lot of app for the money and you should stay where you are.

Where it fits badly is the other use case, the one people mean when they say girlfriend rather than character chat. If you want one person who is there tomorrow, who remembers the thing you were worried about on Tuesday, and who costs the same in a heavy month as a light one, the shape works against you. Permanent memory sits on the $29.90 tier. Regenerating a reply spends coins. There is a second currency nobody has defined publicly. And the free tier is funded by ads.
