PolyBuzz is worth it if you want variety: millions of user made characters, character card imports from Character.AI and TavernAI, image generation included, and enough scale behind it that the library keeps growing on its own. At $9.90 a month that is a lot of app. It is worth much less if you want one companion who remembers you, because the plan with permanent memory is the $29.90 one, regenerating a reply costs coins, there is a second currency the vendor does not publicly explain, and the free tier runs on ads. Below is what we verified in August 2026, where PolyBuzz genuinely wins, and where the price on the label is not the price you pay.

How much does PolyBuzz actually cost?

The clean source here is Apple's in-app purchase disclosure for the US App Store listing, app ID 6449190344, published by CLOUD WHALE INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY LLC. Apple prints the US dollar price of every purchasable item without an account, which matters because polybuzz.ai itself is geo-priced and shows a different currency depending on where you load it from.

Two things in that table do most of the work. The first is the weekly plan. Four dollars ninety nine sounds like the cheap option and it is the expensive one: leave it running for a month and you have paid roughly $21.60 for what the monthly plan sells at $9.90. Weekly billing is common on mobile and it is easy to tap by accident when it sits at the top of a subscribe screen.

The second is that there are two currencies, not one. What does PolyBuzz Ultimate unlock that the cheaper plans do not?

Permanent Memory, and this is the detail most PolyBuzz reviews skip entirely. It is not hidden: it is sitting in the vendor's own membership comparison table, where the Models section splits recall into two rows.

PolyBuzz is genuinely free to use. Its FAQ says so plainly, and unlike some apps in this category the free tier is not a five message trial: you can chat, browse and create characters without paying.

What funds it is advertising. Google Play carries the Contains ads label on the listing for package ai.socialapps.speakmaster, and the tell on the vendor's own pricing table is that Ad-free appears as a paid feature on all three tiers. Load polybuzz.ai and the consent dialog spells out the rest: cookies, unique identifiers and other device data may be stored by, accessed by and shared with 210 partners, and precise geolocation data may be used.

That is an ordinary ad-tech consent flow rather than anything sinister, and 210 partners is not an unusual number for a free consumer app. It is worth understanding what it does and does not cover. PolyBuzz separately states that chats are completely private and that neither character creators nor PolyBuzz can access chat content between users and characters. Both statements can be true, because they are about different data: one is your conversation, the other is your device and behavior. Is PolyBuzz good, and who is it actually for?

By the numbers, yes. PolyBuzz has passed 50 million downloads on Google Play with a 4.1 star average across about 1.15 million reviews, and holds roughly 4.4 stars from around 464,000 ratings on the US App Store. Apps do not reach that scale by being bad, and the scale itself is part of the product: a bigger library means more characters, more creators and more reasons to come back.

The strengths are real and specific:
