Swerve AI vs Character AI Pricing Compared

If you are choosing between these two on price alone, Character.AI is the cheaper and more flexible buy. Character.AI+ is $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year, it runs on iPhone, Android and the web, and its entry tier starts at $2.49. Swerve Pro is $12.49 and Swerve is iOS only, so on Android or a PC the comparison never even starts. Swerve wins on how people rate it: 4.72 stars against 4.28. Both meter you with a currency on top of the subscription, which is the part that decides what you actually pay. All prices below were read from Apple's US in-app purchase listings on 6 September 2026.

Swerve AI vs Character AI: the full price list

Neither company publishes a proper pricing page you can just read. Apple does, for both, because it prints the US dollar price of every in-app purchase a developer configures, with no account and no install. Here is the whole board.

Read left to right, the headline is that the much bigger product is also the cheaper one. Character.AI+ undercuts Swerve Pro by $2.50 a month, and paying for a year brings it to $7.92 a month, which is $54.89 less per year than Swerve Pro at its monthly rate. Scale usually buys you cheaper pricing, and here it has.

Which subscription costs less per month?

Character.AI+, on every reading. At the monthly rate it is $9.99 against $12.49. At the annual rate it is $7.92 a month against nothing, because Apple lists no annual product for Swerve at all. Over a year that is $94.99 versus $149.88.

The entry tiers are closer and messier. Swerve Lite is a clean $3.99. Character.AI Lite appears twice in Apple's list, once at $4.99 and once at $2.49, and neither entry states a billing period. Character.AI does not mention Lite on its own subscribe page, so what separates it from the free tier is not documented anywhere the buyer can check. Swerve is no better here: it publishes no feature comparison between Lite and Pro either.

That is the honest state of both products. You can find out what they charge, and you cannot find out what you get, unless you pay and see. For what it is worth, Character.AI's subscribe page does show its $94.99 annual price struck through against $119.88 and labeled 20 percent off, which is more disclosure than Swerve offers anywhere.

Gems and Charms: the layer that decides your real bill

Both apps sell a consumable currency on top of the subscription, and this is where the monthly total stops being predictable. Swerve calls its currency Gems and sells eight packs from $2.49 to $39.99. Character.AI calls its currency Charms and sells six packs from $0.99 to $99.99.

Swerve's ladder has a genuine defect in it that is worth knowing before you tap anything. The packs are not priced so that buying bigger saves money. The 8,000 Gem pack at $3.99 returns 2,005 Gems per dollar, while the 57,600 Gem pack at $39.99 returns 1,440. Worse, the 6,300 Gem pack costs $4.99, a dollar more than the 8,000 pack, and hands you 1,700 fewer Gems. Character.AI's Charms packs climb in a more conventional line from $0.99 to $99.99, but the same structural problem applies: a currency means your bill is the subscription plus however much you topped up, and neither vendor tells you in advance how much of it a conversation consumes. Does Swerve work on Android?

No. Swerve's own site states it is iOS only, with Android and Web listed as coming soon and no dates given. Character.AI runs on iPhone, Android and in a browser. For a large share of American buyers this ends the comparison before price enters into it, and it is the single most common thing people ask about Swerve in search.

It also explains why Swerve's search results are full of modded APK pages promising unlimited Gems and lifetime Pro. There is no legitimate Android build for those to be, and installing a modified APK to avoid a $12.49 charge is a bad trade with your phone.

Why is Swerve rated higher if it costs more?

Because it is new and small. Swerve holds 4.72 stars across 26,854 US ratings; Character.AI holds 4.28 across 555,901. A young app rated by early adopters almost always scores above a mature one carrying years of users who watched it change, and Character.AI has changed a lot, including filtering decisions that a section of its users still resent. So the rating gap is real, but it is not a like for like quality measurement. It is a 27,000 person sample of recent enthusiasm against a 556,000 person sample that includes everybody who ever felt let down.

Which one should you actually buy?

Buy Character.AI+ if you want the cheaper subscription, you are not on iOS, or you want the enormous character library and do not mind that the company meters you with Charms. At $94.99 a year it is one of the better priced subscriptions in this category, and it is available everywhere.

Buy Swerve if you own an iPhone, you want the app people are currently rating highest, and you are disciplined enough to buy one size of Gem pack and stop. Swerve Lite at $3.99 is a genuinely cheap way in, cheaper than anything Character.AI lists except the ambiguous $2.49 Lite entry.

Do not buy either if what you actually want is one companion who remembers you and a bill you can predict. Both are character libraries with a meter attached, and in both cases the meter is the product decision. The same pattern runs through the category: PolyBuzz pricing puts permanent memory behind its $29.90 Ultimate tier, and Nomi's pricing plans sell credits on top of a $15.99 subscription.

What a flat price looks like instead

Tempted.ai is $9 a month, published before you sign up, with no currency of any kind. Nothing to top up, no pack sizes to compare, no memory tier to upgrade into, and it runs in any browser on Android, iPhone, Mac or PC. A heavy month costs exactly what a quiet one costs.

We will not pretend that beats every number above. Character.AI+ at $94.99 a year works out to $7.92 a month, and Swerve Lite at $3.99 is less than half our price. If the lowest possible line item is the goal, both of those undercut us. What neither of them can tell you is what your third month will cost, and that is the thing we sell.
