Talkie vs Character AI comes down to one company that prints its price and one that will not. Character AI sells c.ai+ at $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year, and Apple lists its products and prices. Talkie publishes no price on its website, has had no US iPhone app since December 2024, and on Google Play discloses only that its in-app purchases run from $0.49 to $199.99 per item. We checked both on 1 October 2026. Here is what each really costs and who should pay for which. This is for adults 18 and over.

Talkie vs Character AI, the short answer

Pick Character AI if you want a known bill. $9.99 a month removes the ads, the slow mode and the daily swipe cap, and you can read that price before you install anything. Pick Talkie if you are on Android, you mostly want voice chats with characters, and you are comfortable finding out the price inside the app. Pick neither if what you actually want is a girlfriend. Character AI does not allow romance at all, and Talkie is rated Teen and built around a library of millions of characters, not one relationship. We cover that option at the end.

What each one costs, side by side

Character AI sells through Apple, so its price list is public. Talkie is not on the US App Store, so the only vendor-controlled source left is its Google Play listing, which shows a range rather than products.

The row that matters most is the store price range. A $0.49 to $199.99 range tells you Talkie sells something costing almost two hundred dollars, and nothing about what it is. Google builds that range from the products the developer has configured, so it is real, but it is not a price list. How much does Talkie cost compared with Character AI?

Character AI costs $9.99 a month for c.ai+, or $94.99 a year, which is $7.92 a month. Talkie's subscription price is not public. On 1 October 2026 its website showed an Unlock with Talkie+ button next to a 50% off badge, but no price, and the price only appears after you sign in. Both apps add a currency on top.

That makes the honest comparison lopsided. You can budget Character AI to the cent before you start: $9.99 a month, or $119.88 over a year if you never switch to annual, plus any Charms you choose to buy. You cannot do that with Talkie from the outside, and the discount badge tells you the number you eventually see may be a promotional one rather than the renewal price.

If you already use Talkie on Android, the quickest way to see your own number is the subscription screen inside the app, then Google Play's Payments and subscriptions page after you buy, which shows the renewal price and date. Write down the renewal figure, not the first charge.

Is Talkie or Character AI better?

Character AI is better for long text roleplay and for anyone who needs to know the price first. Talkie is better for voice, which is the one thing nearly every comparison we read agrees on, and for people who like collecting and swapping between characters. Neither is built for an ongoing romantic relationship, and Character AI rules romance out completely.

The scale gap is real. Character AI has 559,052 US ratings on the App Store and more than 50 million Google Play installs. Talkie also has more than 50 million Google Play installs, but in the US it is now an Android and web product only, which cuts out every iPhone user who searched for it after December 2024.

Talkie's own answer to this question is not much help. Its page titled Talkie vs Character AI names no feature, no price and no difference, and closes by telling you to test both. That is fair advice, but it is also a vendor declining to compare itself.

Why is Talkie not on the App Store?

Apple removed Talkie from the US App Store in December 2024 and it has not come back. We looked up its app ID, 6450140383, on 1 October 2026 and Apple returned no result. The developer, SUBSUP PTE. LTD., is still shipping to US iPhones under another name: Talkie Lab, an AI tools playground with 58,210 US ratings, updated on 22 September 2026. Talkie Lab is not the character chat app, so installing it does not get you Talkie.

For a buyer, this changes the comparison more than any feature. If you are on an iPhone, Talkie is a website in Safari at best. Character AI is a normal App Store app with Apple's billing, Apple's subscription screen and Apple's refund request page behind it.

Talkie gems vs Character AI Charms

Both apps sell a currency, and in both cases the subscription does not fully settle the bill. Character AI's Charms are sold on Apple in packs: Starter at $0.99, Small at $2.99, Medium at $4.99, Large at $9.99, Extra Large at $24.99 and Extra Extra Large at $49.99, with Google Play's range topping out at $99.99. They pay for extra swipes, voice memos and skipping slow mode on the free tier. Character AI's terms make them final and non-refundable.

Talkie's gems are the more pressing question for its users, judging by what people search: how to get gems and whether gems can be earned are among the most common Talkie queries after the price itself. Talkie publishes no gem price list, so we cannot tell you what a pack costs. The $199.99 top of its Google Play range is the ceiling.

The practical difference is that Character AI's subscription removes the cap that pushes people toward Charms, so a $9.99 subscriber has much less reason to buy any. We cannot confirm whether Talkie+ does the same for gems, because Talkie does not say.

Who should pay for which

Pay for Character AI if you write long roleplay with many characters, you want to see the price before you commit, and you are on an iPhone. $94.99 a year is the cheapest way to get c.ai+, and the most predictable bill on this page.

Pay for Talkie if you are on Android, voice is the main reason you open the app, and the character collection is part of the fun. Check the renewal price on Google Play after your first charge.

Pay for neither if you came to these apps looking for a girlfriend. Character AI's policy forbids romance, so a c.ai+ subscription buys you a better filtered chat, not a relationship. If the filter itself is what you are trying to get away from, an uncensored AI chat is a different category of product, built without one.
