SpicyChat vs Chai Pricing at $5.95 vs $13.99

SpicyChat is the cheaper way in: its first paid tier costs $5.95 a month, against $13.99 for Chai Premium. At the top the two are four cents apart, $29.95 for SpicyChat's I'm All In and $29.99 for Chai Ultra. The real difference is what you can find out before paying. SpicyChat documents what every tier gives you, down to the memory size. Chai publishes no pricing page and no feature list at all, and sells a weekly plan that costs more than $1,000 over a year. The short answer on SpicyChat vs Chai

Pay for SpicyChat if you want to know what you are buying and you care about long roleplay sessions. Every tier is priced on its own documentation site, every tier can be bought yearly, and the memory each one gets is written down. Pay for Chai if you want a polished iPhone or Android app with Apple or Google handling billing and refunds, and you are happy to pay $13.99 for a tier whose contents the company never spells out. Avoid Chai's weekly Ultra plan whichever way you go.

What SpicyChat and Chai cost, side by side

SpicyChat's prices come from its September 2026 pricing update FAQ, which raised every tier on 8 September 2026 and lists the old and new figures. Chai's come from Apple's in-app purchase list for app 1544750895, seller Chai Research Corp., re-read today. Apple only shows the ten most popular purchases, so Chai's Ultra Annual plan, last visible on 27 September at $269.99, is quoted from that reading.

Is SpicyChat cheaper than Chai?

Yes, at the entry level by a wide margin, and over a year by even more. Get A Taste is $5.95 a month or $60.00 for a year. Chai Premium is $13.99 a month or $134.99 for a year, so a year of the cheapest Chai plan costs $74.99 more than a year of the cheapest SpicyChat plan.

At the top the prices meet. I'm All In is $29.95 and Ultra is $29.99, and yearly they sit at $299.95 against $269.99, which makes Chai's annual Ultra the one place Chai is cheaper. If you are going to pay for the top tier and keep it for a year, Chai saves you $29.96, provided its annual plan is still on sale when you check out.

One caution on SpicyChat's entry tier. Its documentation gives Get A Taste the same 4,096 token context as the free tier. What you pay $5.95 for is no ads, the Memory Manager and more personas, not a bigger memory. Real memory starts at True Supporter, $19.95.

Which one remembers more for the money?

Only one of them will tell you. SpicyChat's tokens and context page lists 4,096 tokens on Free and Get A Taste, 8,192 on True Supporter with Semantic Memory 2.0, and up to 32,768 on I'm All In, depending on the model you pick. You can compare that against how long your roleplays run before you pay a cent.

Chai publishes nothing comparable. There is no pricing page on its website, no feature table in its app listing and no help article explaining what Ultra adds over Premium. People pay $29.99 for Ultra on the strength of the name. If memory is the reason you are upgrading, that makes Chai a guess and SpicyChat a decision.

The Chai weekly plan is the one to avoid

Chai sells Ultra by the week at $19.99. Multiply by 52 and that is $1,039.48 a year, close to four times the $269.99 annual Ultra price and more than three and a half times what SpicyChat's top tier costs yearly. Weekly plans tend to be the default option on a paywall because the number looks small. SpicyChat has no weekly plan and no in-app currency, so the price on its FAQ is the price you pay. Chai adds Pieces on top of any subscription, from 200 for $2.79 to 1,000 for $13.99.

Billing, refunds and content rules

Chai is billed by Apple or Google, which is convenient: you cancel in your phone's subscription settings and ask Apple or Google for a refund, because Chai's own terms defer refunds to the store entirely. SpicyChat bills on the web and you manage it at spicychat.ai/portal, so a refund request goes to SpicyChat, not to a store.

The content rules differ too. SpicyChat is built around adult roleplay and says so. Chai is rated 17+ on the App Store, its license terms require users to be 18, and its section 7.1 prohibits explicit imagery. If uncensored scenes are the point, that alone settles it in SpicyChat's favor.

Who should pay for which

Pick SpicyChat if you want the lowest entry price, a yearly option on every tier, documented memory and adult roleplay without a store's content rules. When neither is the right purchase

Both apps are character libraries. You browse thousands of community bots, and memory is something you buy more of tier by tier. If what you actually want is one companion who knows you, that model works against you, whichever app you choose.
