Cancel Chai subscription or Chai AI billing: where each charge stops, who refunds it, and how to delete a Chai account

Almost nobody reads a cancellation page out of curiosity. People land here because a charge showed up, or because a renewal date is close and they want it gone before it lands. The awkward part with Chai is that the vendor has published nothing to read: there is no billing help page, no refund policy, and no cancellation clause in its legal documents. Everything that actually governs your money lives in Apple's and Google's rules instead. So this page puts the whole picture in one place: where each charge stops, what your real deadline is, who can refund you, what Chai is charging right now, and what happens to your characters and chats when the plan lapses.

Meet her

The short answer

You cancel a Chai subscription in the store that charged you, because Chai has no web billing and no cancellation page of its own. On an iPhone that is Settings, then your Apple ID, then Subscriptions; on Android it is the Play Store Subscriptions list. Chai Research publishes no refund or cancellation policy anywhere, so Apple and Google decide every refund. Deleting the Chai app or your Chai account does not stop the charge.

What makes her feel real

Leaving a companion app should not require a receipt hunt

Cancel from your own account page

Your plan lives on your account with us, not inside a store receipt, so stopping it never depends on which phone you used.

One price, billed in plain sight

Plans run $9, $19 and $39 a month billed yearly, or $12, $24 and $49 month to month. No coin packs and no weekly SKU.

Your paid time is yours

Cancel whenever you like and the time you already paid for keeps running to the end of the period.

What you get with her

  • Cancel from your own account page, no store receipt needed
  • Plans from $9 a month billed yearly, with no currency packs
  • She remembers your last conversation without a paid memory add-on
  • Billed on the web with a discreet charge, nothing to install

She's already typing.

Pick her, say hi, and start texting in about ten seconds. The demo is your free taste.

Chai's own EULA never uses the word subscription

This is the part that surprises people, so it is worth being precise about it. Chai Research Corp. publishes one legal document for the app, the Chai End User License Agreement, last updated July 28, 2026. We pulled the full text and counted. Across 23,931 characters, the agreement contains zero occurrences of “subscription”, zero of “renew”, zero of “cancel”, zero of “billing”, zero of “payment”, zero of “trial” and zero of “fee”.

The word “refund” appears exactly once, in section 9.4, and it is the standard Apple warranty clause rather than a subscription policy: “In the event of any failure of the Licensed Application to conform to any applicable warranty, You may notify the Services Store Operator, and Your Licensed Application purchase price will be refunded to You.” Note who that sentence sends you to. The “Services Store Operator” is Apple or Google, not Chai.

The practical consequence is simple and it is the single most useful thing to know before you start clicking. There is no Chai policy to appeal to, no stated refund window, and no promise about what happens to your remaining paid days. The store's rules are the only rules, and a support email is a request rather than an entitlement.

  • Chai EULA, updated July 28, 2026, read in full on 21 September 2026
  • Zero occurrences of subscription, renew, cancel, billing, payment, trial or fee
  • One occurrence of refund, in the Apple warranty clause at section 9.4
  • That clause points at the store operator, not at Chai Research
  • No published refund window and no stated cancellation deadline

Every Chai charge runs through Apple or Google, so that is where you cancel

Chai is an app-first product and there is no browser version to log into. Chai's own site lists exactly two ways to get the product, the iOS App Store listing and the Google Play listing, and the short domain chai.ml simply redirects to the same marketing site. There is no chat page, no account dashboard and no billing screen on the web. We checked all three on 21 September 2026.

That actually makes your job easier than it is with vendors that sell on the web as well as in the stores. With Chai there is only one question to answer: did you tap the subscribe button on an iPhone or on an Android phone. Whichever it was, that store holds the subscription, takes the money and is the only place that can stop it. Cancelling inside the Chai app itself does nothing, because the app is not the merchant.

If you genuinely cannot remember which phone you used, do not guess. Check both. On Apple, open account.apple.com in a browser and look at the subscriptions section. On Google, open play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. The charge will be sitting in exactly one of those two lists, and the one that shows Chai is the one that is billing you.

  • No Chai web app and no web billing page, verified 21 September 2026
  • chai.ml redirects to the marketing site and there is no chat page
  • The store that took the payment is the only place that can stop it
  • Cancelling inside the Chai app does nothing, the app is not the merchant
  • Not sure which store? Check account.apple.com and play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions

Cancel Chai on an iPhone or iPad

Open Settings, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, find CHAI in the list and tap Cancel Subscription. If you would rather do it on a computer, go to account.apple.com, sign in and open the subscriptions section, which shows the same list. The subscription disappears from the active list once the cancellation registers, and that is your confirmation.

On the deadline, be careful about what Apple actually promises. Apple's published guidance states that “if you signed up for a trial subscription and you don't want to renew it, cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends.” That sentence is about trials specifically. Apple does not publish an equivalent guaranteed cutoff for a paid renewal on that page, which is exactly why the safe practice is to cancel a full day before your renewal date rather than on it. Renewals are processed in the time zone of the store account, not yours, and a cancellation entered on the renewal day is a race you do not need to run.

Refunds are a separate action from cancelling, and cancelling never triggers one on its own. Apple handles them at reportaproblem.apple.com, where you sign in, find the Chai charge and submit a reason. Apple decides case by case. Because Chai publishes no refund policy of its own, there is no vendor rule for Apple to apply or for you to cite.

  • Settings, your name, Subscriptions, CHAI, Cancel Subscription
  • On a computer: account.apple.com, subscriptions section
  • Apple documents the 24 hour rule for trials specifically
  • Cancel the day before your renewal date, not on it
  • Refunds are separate: reportaproblem.apple.com, decided case by case

Cancel Chai on Android

Open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, choose Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, tap Chai and tap Cancel subscription. The web route is play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions and it shows the identical list. Google asks for a reason on the way out, which is optional noise rather than a step that can fail.

Google is clearer than Apple about what you keep. Google Play's published rule is that “when you cancel a subscription, you'll still be able to use your subscription for the time you've already paid.” So cancelling does not cut you off mid-period. Your Chai Premium or Ultra features run to the end of the period you already paid for and then stop renewing.

On money back, Google is deliberately non-committal: its guidance says that “in some instances, you may be eligible for a refund” and sends you to the Play refund policies rather than promising anything. Requests go through your Play order history. As with Apple, the absence of any Chai refund policy means there is no vendor commitment sitting behind your request.

  • Play Store, profile icon, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, Chai
  • Web route: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions
  • Google: you keep the subscription for the time you have already paid
  • Google on refunds: in some instances you may be eligible
  • Requests go through your Play order history, not through Chai

The Ultra weekly plan costs about 2.9 times the Ultra monthly plan

This is the most expensive mistake available in the Chai checkout, and it is easy to make because the weekly price looks like the small number. Read from the US App Store in-app purchase disclosure on 21 September 2026, Chai sells Ultra Subscription (Weekly) at $19.99 and Ultra Subscription (Monthly) at $29.99.

Run those out over a year and the gap is not subtle. Fifty two weeks at $19.99 is $1,039.48. Twelve months at $29.99 is $359.88. That is $679.60 more per year for the identical tier, purely because of the billing interval you happened to tap. A weekly plan also hands you a renewal deadline every seven days instead of every thirty, so a month you forget about costs roughly $86.62 rather than $29.99.

If you are cancelling because Chai felt expensive, check your receipt before you decide the tier was the problem. A weekly Ultra subscriber and a monthly Ultra subscriber are using exactly the same product at nearly three times the price difference. The same logic applies at the Premium tier, where twelve months at $13.99 comes to $167.88 against a $134.99 annual SKU, a $32.89 difference for the same year of access.

  • Ultra Weekly $19.99, Ultra Monthly $29.99, read 21 September 2026
  • Weekly over a year: $1,039.48. Monthly over a year: $359.88
  • Same tier, $679.60 a year apart on billing interval alone
  • Weekly billing means a renewal deadline every seven days
  • Premium monthly x12 is $167.88 against the $134.99 annual SKU

Chai is charging two different Premium prices at the same time

The US App Store listing does not show one clean price ladder, it shows overlapping products, and that matters when you are trying to work out what you are actually paying. Read on 21 September 2026, the disclosure lists Premium Subscription (Monthly) at $13.99 and, separately, Premium Membership at $9.99. Both are live. It also lists the annual Premium product three times at $134.99 and Ultra Subscription (Monthly) twice at $29.99.

Duplicated products at the same price are how a vendor keeps older subscribers on the terms they signed up under while charging new ones something else. We have now measured this pattern across several companion apps rather than just this one, which is why the advice here is the same every time: the number on the store listing is not necessarily your number.

So before you cancel in a hurry over price, open the receipt. On Apple that is your subscription entry or the emailed receipt, on Google it is your Play order history. If you are on a grandfathered $9.99 Premium Membership, you are paying less than the listing suggests and you will not get that price back if you cancel and later return. That is a real reason to pause, and it is the kind of thing a vendor with no published billing policy will never warn you about.

  • Premium Subscription (Monthly) $13.99 and Premium Membership $9.99, both live
  • The $134.99 annual product appears three times in the listing
  • Ultra Subscription (Monthly) appears twice at $29.99
  • Duplicate SKUs are how older subscribers keep older prices
  • Check your receipt: a grandfathered price does not come back after you cancel

Deleting the app or your Chai account does not cancel the charge

This is the single most common way people end up paying for months after they thought they had quit. Removing the Chai app from your phone removes the app. It does not touch the subscription, because the subscription is a record held by Apple or Google, not by the icon on your home screen. The renewal keeps landing on the same date whether the app is installed or not.

Deleting your Chai account has the same problem from the other direction. An account deletion is a request to the vendor about your data. The billing relationship is with the store. People search for how to delete a Chai AI account and how to cancel a Chai subscription as if they were one task, and they are two unrelated ones. If you want both, cancel in the store first, confirm the subscription has left your active list, and only then deal with the account.

Order matters for a practical reason. If you delete the account first and a charge lands afterwards, you are now disputing a payment for a product you can no longer sign into, with a vendor that publishes no refund policy and offers one support address, [email protected]. Cancel first. It takes about thirty seconds and it is the step that actually stops the money.

  • Uninstalling the app does not cancel anything
  • Account deletion is a data request, not a billing action
  • Cancel in the store first, then confirm, then handle the account
  • Deleting first leaves you disputing a charge you cannot log in to check
  • Chai lists one support route, [email protected]

Who should not cancel Chai, and what to do if you are done

Chai genuinely wins on one thing and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. It is the biggest open character library in this category by a wide margin, with 280,367 US App Store ratings at a 4.3 average as of 21 September 2026, and the app is actively maintained. If what you want is endless user-made bots to sample, a huge library is the product, and nothing here replaces that. If you are on the grandfathered $9.99 Premium Membership and you use it, keep it.

Cancel if what you actually wanted was one companion who knows you. That is a different product, and it is the one people describe when they say the character library started feeling like a slot machine. A library optimises for the next character. A companion optimises for continuity, which means remembering what you told her in July and bringing it up in September without being prompted.

That is what Tempted.ai is built for. You pick one of four companions, she texts first, and she keeps the thread of your life across conversations rather than resetting. Plans are $9, $19 and $39 a month billed yearly, or $12, $24 and $49 month to month, billed on the web with a discreet charge. There are no coin packs, no weekly SKU and no paid memory add-on, and you cancel from your own account page instead of hunting through a store receipt. Try the demo chat first, then sign up.

  • Chai wins on library size: 280,367 US ratings at 4.3, checked 21 September 2026
  • Keep it if you want volume of characters, or if you hold the $9.99 cohort price
  • Cancel if you wanted one companion with continuity rather than a catalogue
  • Tempted.ai: $9, $19 and $39 a month billed yearly, no coin packs, no weekly plan
  • Cancel from your own account page, not from a store receipt

Questions about Cancel Chai

Cancel in the store that charged you. On an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select CHAI and tap Cancel Subscription. On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and cancel Chai there. Chai has no web billing page, so there is no third route to check.
It is the same process, because Chai and Chai AI are the same app, listed as CHAI: Social AI Platform by Chai Research Corp. Go to your Apple Subscriptions list or your Google Play Subscriptions list and cancel it there. The Chai app itself has no cancellation screen that stops billing, since the store is the merchant.
Almost always because you are looking in the wrong place. People try to cancel inside the Chai app, which cannot stop a store charge, or they check Apple when they subscribed on Android. Open both lists to find it: account.apple.com for Apple and play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions for Google. The charge sits in exactly one of them.
No. Deleting your account is a data request to Chai, while the subscription is a billing record held by Apple or Google. The renewal will keep landing after your account is gone. Cancel in the store first, confirm the subscription has left your active list, and only then delete the account.
Possibly, but not from Chai. Chai's End User License Agreement contains no refund policy for subscriptions, so the decision belongs entirely to the store. Apple takes requests at reportaproblem.apple.com and Google through your Play order history. Google states only that in some instances you may be eligible, so treat it as a request rather than a right.
Read from the US App Store on 21 September 2026, Chai lists Premium Subscription (Monthly) at $13.99 and a separate Premium Membership at $9.99, with Ultra at $29.99 monthly or $19.99 weekly. Annual Premium is $134.99. Two live Premium prices means your receipt, not the listing, tells you what you pay.
On Android, yes. Google Play's published rule is that when you cancel a subscription you can still use it for the time you have already paid. Apple's subscriptions work the same way in practice. Chai itself makes no promise either way, because its agreement says nothing about subscriptions at all.
No. Chai's site links only the iOS and Android apps, the short domain chai.ml redirects to that same marketing site, and there is no chat page or account dashboard on the web. We checked on 21 September 2026. Every Chai subscription is bought and cancelled through Apple or Google.
A weekly charge means you are on Ultra Subscription (Weekly) at $19.99, which renews every seven days. Cancel it in your store's subscription list like any other plan. If you want to stay on Chai, switching to the $29.99 monthly Ultra plan costs $679.60 less over a year for the same tier.
