Why people are looking for a SpicyChat alternative right now

Three things changed for SpicyChat subscribers in the last year, and each one sends a different kind of person looking.

The first is price. SpicyChat's own FAQ for the September 2026 pricing update says the change took effect on 8 September 2026 and touched every paid tier. The cheapest plan rose 19 percent, from $5.00 to $5.95. True Supporter rose 33 percent, from $14.95 to $19.95. I'm All In rose 20 percent, from $24.95 to $29.95. Annual plans moved too, with True Supporter going from $149.95 to $199.95 a year. SpicyChat states plainly that no features were added; it calls the change purely a price change.

The second is the iPhone. SpicyChat's iOS app notice, dated 27 August 2025, says Apple removed the app for not complying with its guidelines, and that installed copies stopped working on 25 September 2025. There is no native iPhone app today; SpicyChat recommends saving the website to your home screen.

The third is memory, which never went away as a complaint. 'spicychat bad memory' and 'spicychat memory limit' are both live autocomplete searches, and the documentation explains why: the context a character can see depends on the tier you pay for, and the entry tier sees no more than a free account.

SpicyChat subscription price after 8 September 2026

These are SpicyChat's current prices as published in its own pricing FAQ, read on 5 October 2026. Euro prices match the dollar prices; pound prices are listed separately by SpicyChat.

Get A Taste is $5.95 a month or $60.00 a year. True Supporter is $19.95 a month or $199.95 a year. I'm All In is $29.95 a month or $299.95 a year. The annual plans work out to about $5.00, $16.66 and $25.00 a month, so the yearly discount is about 16 percent on every tier.

The detail most people miss is the price lock. If you subscribed before 8 September and keep the same plan active, SpicyChat says you keep renewing at your old price. Any plan change, upgrade or downgrade, moves you to current pricing, and SpicyChat says the old price does not come back. A subscription that fully expires after failed payments also loses the old price. If you pay with a method that does not renew automatically, there is nothing to lock, so each purchase is at the new price.

That changes the switching math. If you are on a locked $14.95 True Supporter plan, you are paying $5 a month less than anyone who joins today, and you lose that the moment you touch the plan.

Does SpicyChat have a memory limit?

Yes. SpicyChat sets a context limit by tier, and its Tokens and Context page lists them: Free users up to 4,096 tokens, Get A Taste up to 4,096 tokens, True Supporter up to 8,192, and I'm All In up to 32,768, depending on the model. The same page works an example: with a 1,000 token character definition and messages of about 150 tokens, a 4K context keeps only around 20 recent messages visible.

Read those two lines together and you get the finding most reviews skip. Get A Taste, the $5.95 plan, has exactly the same context window as the free tier. The Premium Features page still lists 4K Context Memory as a Get A Taste benefit and says characters will 'remember further back', but on the tier table the number is identical to free. What the cheapest plan does add is the Memory Manager, where you can type memories of up to 250 characters each by hand.

The automatic memory, which SpicyChat calls Semantic Memory 2.0, starts at True Supporter, now $19.95. That is the feature that writes memories for you from the conversation so a character can refer back to something from long ago. So the honest price of a SpicyChat character that remembers you without manual upkeep is $19.95 a month, and the price of the longest context is $29.95.

Is SpicyChat on the App Store?

No. SpicyChat's own Mobile Apps page says it does not have a native iOS app on the Apple App Store, and its iOS app notice explains that Apple removed it in August 2025. On Android the official app is an APK downloaded from SpicyChat's website rather than from Google Play. If you want to pay through an app store, SpicyChat points you to its separate SFW platform, PixelChat, on Google Play, and says that subscription also applies to SpicyChat.

Be careful with what the App Store search does show. On 5 October 2026 a search for 'spicychat' in the US store returned an app named Spicy Chat AI - AI Roleplay, rated 17+, with 522 ratings. Its seller is an individual developer account, and the developer website on the listing is janitoraiapp.com, not spicychat.ai. Given that SpicyChat says it has no iOS app, that listing is not SpicyChat, and a subscription bought there does not pay SpicyChat or unlock your SpicyChat account.

This is one reason a browser-based alternative makes sense on an iPhone. Tempted.ai runs in Safari, and you can add it to your home screen the same way SpicyChat suggests for itself.

What to look for in a SpicyChat alternative

Decide which of SpicyChat's features you are actually paying for, because no alternative replaces all of them. SpicyChat is a large public library of user-made characters with uncensored roleplay, group chat, image generation, text to speech and a choice of models. A companion app is a different product shaped around one relationship.

If you are leaving because of memory, test memory before you pay, because every app in this category claims it. Tell a character three specific things on day one, wait a full day, start a new conversation and ask an open question. A character with real memory brings the details up; a character with a short context window asks you to repeat yourself.

If you are leaving because of price, compare the plan that includes the feature you want, not the headline. A $5.95 plan that remembers no more than free is not the cheapest memory on the market; it is the cheapest way to remove ads. Check whether the alternative sells tokens, coins or credits on top, because a second currency is how a $10 subscription becomes a $30 bill.

If you are leaving because of the iPhone, any web app solves it, and so does an app with a real App Store listing from a named developer.

Who should not switch from SpicyChat

Stay on SpicyChat if uncensored roleplay is the point. It has a large public library, group chat, a director mode and a choice of models, and none of the companion apps on this page match that combination. Tempted.ai is not explicit, so it is the wrong replacement for that use.

Stay if you are on a locked pre-September price and happy with your tier. SpicyChat says that price ends the moment you change plans or let the subscription lapse, so cancelling to try something else and coming back later will cost you the difference permanently. Try an alternative alongside it for a month before you cancel anything.

Stay if you build characters. SpicyChat has creator tools, analytics and a leaderboard; a companion app gives you one relationship to shape, not a studio.
