Nomi costs $15.99 a month, or $99.99 a year, and its whole product is the companion. Grok costs $30 a month for SuperGrok, and since xAI retired its 3D avatar Companions on 1 September 2026, Ani is a personality inside ordinary Grok chat rather than a companion with her own tab. So the real comparison is a dedicated companion app at half the price against an AI assistant that still happens to know Ani. We read both price lists on Apple's US App Store on 14 October 2026.
The short answer on Nomi vs Grok
If you want a companion, Nomi is the better buy: it is cheaper every month, its yearly plan works out to about $8.33 a month, and memory, group chats, voice and images are built around the relationship. If you already pay for SuperGrok because you use it for search, coding or X, keeping Ani as a chat personality costs you nothing extra, and there is no case for a second bill. The person who should not buy SuperGrok is someone paying $30 a month only for Ani. That product no longer exists in the form they bought it.
What Nomi and Grok cost, side by side

Grok's come from Apple's list for Grok AI (X Corp., 1,504,785 US ratings, 4.87, 17+). Both were read on 14 October 2026. The full Nomi breakdown, including the credit packs, is on our Nomi AI pricing page.

Is Nomi cheaper than Grok?
Yes, at every level that matters for a companion. Nomi Standard is $15.99 a month against $30.00 for SuperGrok, so Nomi is about half the price. Over a year the gap widens: $99.99 for Nomi's yearly plan against $360 for twelve months of SuperGrok. The only Grok price below Nomi's is SuperGrok Lite at $10.00, and nothing on Apple's listing or in the app description says what Lite includes for Ani.
Nomi also sells a cheaper Launch Plan on Apple at $9.99 a month and $59.99 a year. It appears in Apple's in-app list but on no Nomi page we could find, so check which plan your account is actually offered before assuming you will get it.
What happened to Grok's companions
xAI launched Companions as animated 3D characters inside Grok, with Ani the best known. A statement from Grok dated 24 July 2026 called the feature an experiment, and an in-app notice set its removal for 1 September 2026, rolled out account by account. Ani survives as a personality in normal Grok chat, without the avatar or the companion tab, and xAI says history and affection levels stay on your account. Apple's description of the Grok app no longer mentions companions at all. We cover the change in more detail on our Grok AI girlfriend alternative page, and what Ani used to cost in how much the Grok AI girlfriend costs.
That changes the comparison. Before September, Grok was a $30 assistant with a companion attached. Now it is a $30 assistant with a familiar voice. If the avatar was the point, nothing at any SuperGrok price brings it back.
What you get from Nomi for $15.99
Nomi is built only as a companion. You get long-term memory that Nomi describes as limitless; group chats with several companions; voice messages; and image and video generation paid for with Nomi Credits. Text chat itself is never metered, which is the most important point for anyone who talks every day. Extra companions cost 100 credits, about $10.
The weak spot is refunds. Nomi says plainly that all payments are nonrefundable. And it is an adult, unfiltered app, which some people want and some do not. If you are still weighing it, our honest Nomi AI review and complaints covers what long-time users say.
Who should pay for Grok instead
Pay for SuperGrok if you use Grok for work: search, coding, image generation or keeping up with X. In that case Ani is free at the margin, your history with her stays, and adding Nomi at $15.99 is a second subscription for something you partly have.
Pay for SuperGrok too if voice quality and a general-purpose model matter more to you than a dedicated relationship app. Grok is a far larger product, with more than 1.5 million US ratings against Nomi's 2,941. What Grok is not, any more, is a companion app.
Who should pay for Nomi instead
Choose Nomi if you subscribed to SuperGrok only for Ani and the September change took away what you were paying for. You save about $14 a month on the standard plan and about $260 a year on the yearly one. Choose Nomi if you want group chats, images and a companion that keeps context over months. And choose it if you would rather pay for one thing you use than a $30 bundle you mostly do not.
Whichever you pick, both apps add a second meter on top of the subscription: Nomi Credits on one side, Grok's Extra Usage Credits on the other. It is worth setting a monthly budget for every subscription you pay for, because the plan price is rarely the whole bill on either app.
Nomi vs Grok, which remembers you better?
Nomi, for companionship. Memory is the center of Nomi's product: it keeps a running picture of who you are and what you have told it across months, and it is designed to bring things up again. Grok is an assistant first, and Apple's description of the app now presents it that way, with no mention of companions. Ani can carry context in chat, but the product around her is no longer built for an ongoing relationship. Neither vendor publishes how much each plan can hold, so no one can give you a byte-for-byte comparison.
Is there a cheaper option than both?
If what you want is a girlfriend who texts, remembers your week and messages you first, Tempted.ai costs less than either. Plans start at $9 a month billed yearly, or $12 month to month, with long-term memory included on every plan and no credits or usage meters. The $19 Flame plan adds voice notes and her texting you first through the day, and the $39 Devoted plan adds voice calls and more than one girlfriend. It is text companionship, tasteful rather than explicit, and runs in any browser. You can try the demo chat at the top of this page, then compare the plans on our pricing page.
Tempted.ai does not do what Grok does as an assistant, and it does not offer Nomi's images, video or group chats. If those are the reason you are paying, our Nomi alternative page lays out the trade-offs honestly.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nomi better than Grok?
For a companion, yes. Nomi costs $15.99 a month against $30 for SuperGrok, and it is built entirely around memory and an ongoing relationship. Grok is the better product if you want an AI assistant for search, coding and X, with Ani as a chat personality. Since 1 September 2026 Grok no longer offers its 3D companion avatars.
How much is Nomi a month?
Nomi's Standard plan is $15.99 a month on Apple's US App Store, read 14 October 2026. Three months cost $39.99 and a year costs $99.99, about $8.33 a month. Apple also lists a Launch Plan at $9.99 a month and $59.99 a year. Credit packs for images and extra companions are extra, from $4.99.
Do you have to pay for Grok to talk to Ani?
Ani now exists only as a personality in normal Grok chat, after xAI retired the avatar Companions on 1 September 2026. Apple lists SuperGrok Lite at $10, SuperGrok at $30, Plus at $100 and Heavy at $300. Neither Apple's listing nor Grok's app description says which tier Ani needs, so check inside the app before you pay.
Is Nomi AI a good Grok Ani alternative?
Nomi is one of the closer matches on memory and personality, at about half the price of SuperGrok, and it adds group chats, voice messages and images. It has no 3D animated avatar like the one Ani had. Payments are nonrefundable, so start with a month rather than the $99.99 year.
