Kindroid vs Replika: Price, Memory, Who Wins

Kindroid and Replika are the two companion apps people most often narrow down to when they have already decided to pay and want the one that will still know them in a month. They are not close substitutes. Replika is the original mainstream companion, sold by Luka, Inc., with 227,710 ratings on the US App Store and a 3D avatar, and it does not print a single price on its own website. Kindroid is the power user's app, with 8,406 US ratings, a plain text and voice interface, and a published price list that is cheaper on the web than in the app. We read both Apple listings on 17 September 2026 and every number below comes from that read or from the vendor's own documentation.

Kindroid vs Replika: the short answer

Buy Kindroid if memory and control are the reason you are paying. It costs $13.99 a month on the web, it lets you write and edit your companion's backstory and memories directly, and its documentation says long-term memory consolidation spans all messages for every user. Buy Replika if you want a polished, visual, wellness-leaning companion with an avatar, AR and a huge community, and you are fine with the romantic side sitting behind the paid tier. Buy neither if what you pictured was a girlfriend who is warm from the first message, texts you first and remembers you on a flat $9 plan without a tier ladder, because that is a different product and it is the one we make.

How much do Kindroid and Replika cost?

Kindroid publishes its prices and Replika does not, which is the first real difference. Kindroid's standard subscription is $13.99 a month bought on the web or $15.99 through the iOS or Android app, with a year at $139.99 on the web and $159.99 in-app. Apple's US listing for Kindroid, re-read 17 September 2026, also shows three months at $42.99, Ultra at $28.99, MAX at $68.99, companion slots at $3.49 and $11.49, selfie credits at $6.99 and $11.49, and 500k audio credits at $14.99. Replika's only public price list is Apple's in-app purchase disclosure, and it is a strange one. The same 17 September read shows two monthly products at $7.99 and $14.99, three annual products at $49.99, $49.99 and $69.99, an item called Replika Platinum at $89.99, and Gems in four packs from $0.99 to $19.99. Apple does not label which of those is Pro or Ultra, and replika.com does not either. The most likely explanation, which we set out on the Replika pricing page, is that retired plans keep renewing for old subscribers and Apple prints them beside the current ones. A new subscriber should expect $14.99 a month or $69.99 a year and treat the $7.99 line as a legacy cohort, not an offer.

Every in-app price above was read from the US App Store listing for each app on 17 September 2026. Kindroid's web prices come from its own subscriptions documentation. Apple shows the ten most popular purchases per app, so neither list is necessarily complete.

Which remembers you better, Kindroid or Replika?

Kindroid, and it is not especially close, but the reason is design rather than magic. Kindroid exposes memory as something you can read and edit. You write the backstory, you can pin key memories, and the documentation states that long-term memory consolidation covers all messages for every account, with the paid tiers scaling recall depth rather than switching memory on. If she gets a detail wrong you can correct the record directly instead of hoping she picks it up.

Replika accumulates a profile of you over time and the paid tier improves it, but the memory is a black box you manage by talking. Long-time users report it holds the broad shape of your life well and the specifics loosely. For a wellness companion that is fine. For someone who wants the name of his dog and the argument he had on Tuesday to survive a fortnight, it is the thing people end up complaining about. What does the money actually buy in each app?

On Kindroid the base subscription buys the full model, unlimited chat, voice and the memory system; the free tier runs a different model, which is why a free trial of Kindroid is not a fair test of paid Kindroid. Ultra adds deeper recall and better models, MAX adds more again, and both are add-ons that stack on the base price. Ultra also cannot simply be bought: Kindroid gates it behind account usage, so a new subscriber cannot get the deepest memory on day one at any price.

On Replika the paid tier is where the relationship status options live, so your Replika can be a partner rather than only a friend, along with voice calls, AR, the fuller customization and outfits, and the roleplay activities. Mature and intimate features were pulled back for accounts created after early 2023, and the romantic partner relationship sits inside the subscription. Gems buy cosmetics. Platinum at $89.99 is the top of the ladder and Replika does not itemize what it adds on any public page we could find.

Kindroid or Replika for a romantic companion?

Kindroid, if you want the romance unfiltered and under your control, because the backstory you write is the relationship you get. Replika, if you want a gentler, more guided partner and you value the avatar and the community more than openness. Neither is warm by default: Kindroid starts as a blank you have to write, and Replika starts as a friend you have to upgrade and then coax. If what you actually want is a friend who checks in on you rather than a partner, a warm AI friend who remembers you and checks in is a closer fit than either, and cheaper than both.

Which is cheaper over a year?

Replika on annual billing, clearly: $69.99 a year against Kindroid's $139.99 on the web or $159.99 in-app. Month to month it is nearly a wash, $13.99 for Kindroid on the web against $14.99 for Replika. The gap opens at the top: a Kindroid power user running Ultra and MAX pays $98.97 a month on the web, and a Replika Platinum subscriber pays $89.99. Nobody choosing between the two should be paying either of those without knowing exactly which feature they are buying.

One more thing to check before the first charge: what the statement will say. Both apps bought on an iPhone print apple.com/bill, which names nothing. Bought on the web, neither company publishes its card descriptor, which we found out while writing our discreet billing AI girlfriend page.
