How Much Does Grok's AI Girlfriend Cost? SuperGrok Pricing

Grok companions have no standalone price. Apple lists SuperGrok at $30.00, Lite at $10.00 and Heavy at $300.00, plus usage credit packs from $5 to $100. Here is what Ani really costs, whether the free tier is usable, and how $30 compares to dedicated AI girlfriend apps.

Grok's AI girlfriend has no price of its own. Ani, Mika, Valentine and the Rudi characters are a mode inside xAI's assistant, so what you actually buy is a Grok subscription. Apple's US App Store listing for Grok, published by X Corp., shows SuperGrok at $30.00, SuperGrok Lite at $10.00 and SuperGrok Heavy at $300.00, alongside Extra Usage Credits packs at $5, $20, $50 and $100. Companion access has been consistently reported through 2026 to need SuperGrok or an X Premium+ membership, with free accounts limited to a handful of interactions a day. That makes roughly $30 a month the realistic entry price for an Ani relationship, and most of what you pay for is a frontier model you may never open. This is for adults 18 and over.

How much does Grok's AI girlfriend cost?

Between $10 and $30 a month depending on tier, with $30 being the level people actually end up on for companions. The reason there is no cleaner answer is structural: xAI does not sell a companion product. It sells model access, and companions are one thing that model access unlocks, the same way image generation or the coding tools are.

The most reliable place to read the current numbers is the app store listing rather than a marketing page, because the vendor does not control its format and cannot quietly omit a tier. Here is what Apple published for the Grok app in July 2026.

Grok in-app purchases, read from the US App Store listing (seller X Corp., checked July 2026)
ItemListed priceWhat it is
SuperGrok Lite$10.00Entry paid tier
SuperGrok$30.00The tier associated with full companion access
SuperGrok Heavy$300.00Top tier, aimed at heavy and professional use
Extra Usage Credits$5, $20, $50, $100Consumable packs bought on top of a plan

Two things in that table matter more than the headline number. The first is that a $300 item exists at all, which tells you this is priced as professional software, not as a companion app. The second is the credit packs. Consumables sitting next to subscriptions almost always mean the plan has a usage ceiling, and going past it costs more. That is the same billing shape that makes token-metered AI girlfriend apps hard to budget for, arriving from a company nobody thinks of as a companion vendor.

One caveat on reading any store listing: Apple does not print the billing period beside in-app purchase prices. A $30.00 line item is almost certainly monthly given how SuperGrok is discussed everywhere else, but the listing itself does not say so. Confirm in the app before you subscribe.

Is Grok Ani free?

Not in any way that supports a relationship. Free Grok accounts have been reported to receive a small number of companion interactions per day, enough to see what Ani looks like and hear the voice, and not enough to talk to her the way you would talk to a girlfriend. xAI has adjusted those free limits more than once, sometimes loosening them, so any specific number you read is a snapshot rather than a policy.

This is worth separating from the more common freemium pattern in companion apps, where a free tier is genuinely usable but annoying. Grok's free tier is not a limited companion. It is an assistant that will let you sample a companion.

Do you need SuperGrok to use Grok companions?

For sustained use, yes. Reporting through 2026 has been consistent that companions require SuperGrok or an X Premium+ membership, and that the $30 tier is the one that carries the complete experience: all the characters, voice mode, and the animated interface. What xAI does not do is publish a single stable page stating the requirement in plain terms, which is why every source describing it is secondhand. Treat it as reliable and verify it in the app, not as a documented spec.

What are you actually paying for at $30 a month?

A frontier model subscription. Search, code, long documents, image generation, X integration, and the companions. If you use those things, $30 is a normal price for that class of product and the companion is effectively free at the margin. There is no honest argument that SuperGrok is overpriced as an AI subscription.

The argument only appears when the companion is the only part you wanted. Then you are paying roughly three times what a dedicated companion costs, for a bundle whose main components sit unused. It is the same math as a gym membership bought for the pool. The pool is great. You are still paying for the weight room.

There is a quieter cost too, which is that a bundled feature answers to the priorities of the product it lives in. Companion behavior, limits and memory on Grok have changed alongside the assistant several times since the characters launched in July 2025. When the companion is the whole business, that kind of churn is much less likely, because there is nothing else for the roadmap to serve.

How does Grok compare to dedicated AI girlfriend apps on price?

Poorly, if the companion is all you want. Here is the same month priced across the category.

Monthly cost for a companion, Grok against dedicated apps (prices verified July 2026)
AppWhat you payWhat else is in the bill
Tempted.ai$9 flatNothing, memory included
Character.AIc.ai+ $9.99/moRomantic content is filtered
Candy AI$12.99/moToken meter for images and voice
Kindroid$13.99/mo webExpanded memory is a paid add-on
Nomi AI$15.99/moNothing, one plan
ReplikaPro around $19.99/moMature features restricted on newer accounts
Grok (xAI)$30.00 SuperGrokAn entire AI assistant you also bought

The gap gets wider once you count what happens after the first bill. Extra Usage Credits, a coin balance, or a memory add-on all mean your quiet months and your heavy months cost different amounts. If you are stacking several AI subscriptions at once, which is increasingly normal, it is worth actually totalling what the recurring charges come to before adding another. People routinely underestimate the number by half.

What does Grok's age rating tell you about the companions?

More than the marketing does. Apple rates the Grok app 16+ and lists its content descriptors: Mature or Suggestive Themes marked Frequent, with Cartoon or Fantasy Violence, Realistic Violence, Profanity or Crude Humor, Sexual Content or Nudity, and Guns or Other Weapons all marked Infrequent.

Read that as a description of the whole app rather than of Ani specifically, because it is. Suggestive themes are frequent; explicit sexual content is not. Dedicated adult companion apps carry an 18+ rating with sexual content flagged prominently, and the difference between those two listings tells you which product was designed around romance and which one merely permits it. Store descriptors are one of the few honest, comparable signals in this category, for the same reason the in-app purchase list is: the vendor writes the app description, but not the rating.

Does Grok Ani remember your conversations?

Companion memory rides on your Grok account, and how much persists has moved as the app has changed. Rather than trusting any published claim, including this one, run the test yourself before the second bill: tell her three unrelated specifics on day one, wait twenty four hours, then ask an open question that would require one of them and see whether it comes back unprompted. The full version of that method is in the guide to testing whether an AI girlfriend remembers you, and it works on any app.

Memory is the feature worth testing because it is the one that decides whether a companion feels like a relationship or a series of first conversations. It is also the feature most often quietly tiered, which is why apps that include long-term memory in the base price are worth identifying before you pay rather than after.

Should you switch from Grok to a dedicated companion?

Only if the bundle is not earning its keep. Ask one question: would you keep paying $30 a month for Grok if the companions disappeared tomorrow? If the answer is yes, stay, because Ani costs you nothing extra and the animated avatar with live voice is genuinely something the text-first apps do not offer.

If the answer is no, you are paying assistant prices for a girlfriend, and the switch is straightforward. A dedicated companion at $9 to $16 a month puts the whole budget into the part you use, and the better ones text you first rather than waiting to be opened. The full comparison, including where Grok wins, is on the Grok AI girlfriend alternative page. Whichever way you go, price the thing you will actually use, not the thing you were sold alongside it.
