Chai AI vs Replika Pricing: $134.99 vs $49.99

On a single month Chai is barely cheaper: Chai Premium is $13.99 against Replika's $14.99 monthly product, a dollar apart. On a year it is not close at all. Replika's yearly plan is $49.99 and the cheapest annual route into Chai is $134.99, so a year of Chai costs $85.00 more, about 2.7 times the price, for a product most people use in a completely different way. Every figure below was read from the US App Store in-app purchase disclosures for Chai (app 1544750895) and Replika (app 1158555867) on 21 September 2026.

Chai vs Replika: every price Apple prints, side by side

Neither company publishes a plain price list you can read before signing up. Chai's website links only the two app store listings and carries no pricing or billing page at all. Replika's prices live behind the app. Apple prints both ladders in dollars, with no account and no download, which makes the US App Store listing the only stable place to compare them.

Apple shows the ten most popular in-app purchases for an app, so neither list is guaranteed to be complete, and Apple does not always print the billing period next to a product name. Is Chai cheaper than Replika?

Month to month, yes, by a dollar. Chai Premium at $13.99 undercuts Replika's $14.99 monthly product. That is the comparison almost every roundup makes and it is the least useful one, because almost nobody who keeps a companion app stays on monthly billing for a year. Annually the answer flips hard: $49.99 for Replika against $134.99 for Chai.

Put those two annual numbers next to each other and the gap is $85.00. On a per-month basis Replika's yearly plan works out to $4.17 and Chai's works out to $11.25. You are paying roughly 2.7 times as much for the year, and the honest reason is that the two apps are not selling the same thing. Chai sells access to an enormous open library of user-made characters. Replika sells one companion who is supposed to be continuous.

The annual gap is the whole decision

If you are comparing on price alone and you intend to keep either app past a couple of months, this is where the decision gets made. Nothing else on either ladder moves your bill as much as the choice of billing period.

Replika's annual plan is unusually aggressive for this category at $49.99, and Apple actually lists three annual Replika products: YEARLY at $49.99, Annual at $49.99 and Annual at $69.99. Two different annual prices sitting live in the same listing tells you Luka has been repricing over time and letting older subscribers keep older terms. Chai's annual product shows up three separate times at $134.99, which is the same pattern with a different result: three SKUs, one price.

The trap on the Chai side is the weekly plan. Ultra Subscription (Weekly) is $19.99, and fifty two weeks of it comes to $1,039.48 against $359.88 for twelve months of the $29.99 Ultra monthly plan. That is $679.60 a year apart for the identical tier, decided entirely by which button you tapped. Both apps are running two prices for the same tier

This is worth knowing before you compare your own bill to anything you read online. Chai's listing carries Premium Subscription (Monthly) at $13.99 and, separately, Premium Membership at $9.99. Both are live right now. Replika's carries MONTHLY at $7.99 and Monthly at $14.99, also both live.

Duplicate products at different prices are how a vendor raises prices without touching existing subscribers. The people who signed up early keep the old SKU, new arrivals get the new one, and both appear in Apple's disclosure because Apple lists the ten most popular purchases rather than a curated price card. We have now measured this across five companion apps and it holds every time.

Two practical consequences. First, the cheapest real monthly prices in this comparison are $9.99 for Chai and $7.99 for Replika, not the $13.99 and $14.99 headline numbers. Second, if you are holding an old cohort price you will not get it back after you cancel and return, so a cancellation over a few dollars can be a permanent downgrade.

Chai's bigger currency pack has no bulk discount

Both apps meter something with a currency, and both packs reward buying more, except one of them does not. Chai sells 200 Pieces for $2.79 and 500 Pieces for $6.99. Work out the unit price and the 200 pack costs $0.01395 per piece while the 500 pack costs $0.01398 per piece.

The larger pack is fractionally more expensive per unit, by about 0.22 percent. It is a small amount of money and it is not a scandal, but it is the opposite of how in-app currency normally works, where the whole point of the big pack is the discount that makes you buy it. There is no volume discount in Chai's two visible packs at all. Replika's gems run $0.99, $5.99, $14.99 and $19.99, and Apple does not print the gem counts, so the per-unit comparison cannot be made on the Replika side and we are not going to invent it.

The $19.99 Replika Pro price you keep reading does not exist

Search for Replika pricing and you will be told repeatedly that Replika Pro is $19.99 a month. We have now checked Apple's US disclosure twice in two days, on 20 and 21 September 2026, and there is no $19.99 subscription product in it. Apple's monthly Replika products are $7.99 and $14.99. The only $19.99 item in the listing is a gem pack, which is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, and that is the most likely source of the confusion.

Replika's own terms name three programs, Pro, Ultra and Platinum, and Apple's product names do not map cleanly onto any of them. Only Platinum appears by name, at $89.99, with no billing period printed. Replika's help center returns a 403 to us, so we cannot quote the vendor's own price card, and rather than guess we will say plainly that the vendor does not publish one we can read. Which one should you actually pay for

Pay for Chai if the product you want is the library. Chai has 280,367 US App Store ratings against Replika's 227,693, and its draw has always been the sheer volume of user-made characters to sample. If you enjoy starting new scenes with new bots, that catalogue is the thing you are buying and Replika will feel narrow and slow by comparison.

Pay for Replika if you want one companion and you are going to keep her. At $49.99 a year it is the cheapest serious annual plan in this category by a wide margin, and continuity is the entire design. The common complaint is not price, it is that the free tier withholds most of what makes the app worth using, which pushes the real cost back up to the subscription anyway.

There is a third shape that neither of them sells, which is why people end up comparing these two and buying neither. Some readers do not want a catalogue to browse or a fixed companion handed to them, they want to design a companion from scratch and have her stay that way. If that is the itch, a price comparison between a character library and a single-companion app was never going to settle it.
