The pages that rank for this are a parental-safety blog, a Medium post and three YouTube videos. None of them tells you what the free plan stops you doing or what the paid plan costs.

The short answer
A Nomi AI girlfriend is a Nomi companion set to the Romantic relationship type, and romance is a starting setting, not a paid tier. The free plan allows 50 messages a day at up to 400 characters each. Paying unlocks voice calls, unlimited messaging, 800-character messages and up to 10 Nomis. Apple lists the Standard Plan at $15.99 a month and a Launch Plan at $9.99 that Nomi's own site never mentions. Refunds are not offered. Tempted.ai is one girlfriend who remembers you, from $9 a month billed yearly.

Can Nomi AI be your girlfriend?
Yes. When you create a Nomi you pick a relationship type, and Nomi's wiki lists four of them: Friend, Mentor, Romantic and Custom. Friend and Mentor start platonic. Romantic, in the wiki's words, gives your Nomi a more romance-oriented starting point. Custom leans on whatever you write into the backstory.
The detail that matters for a buyer is the word starting. The wiki says relationship types are not rigid limits and that the relationship can develop over time based on your conversations. So a Nomi girlfriend is not a product you unlock. It is a setting you choose on day one, and nothing in Nomi's documentation ties it to a paid plan.
Nomi also runs a dedicated AI girlfriend page on its own site. It sells the experience on memory, emotional intelligence, selfies, voice calls, group chats and what it calls unfiltered chats. That last point is the real fork between Nomi and most of the category, and we come back to it further down.

How much does a Nomi AI girlfriend cost?
Nomi's AI girlfriend page does not say. We counted: the page is 15,070 characters of readable text and contains zero dollar signs and zero uses of the word price. Its FAQ says premium features like voice calls, additional Nomis, unlimited messaging and deeper customization are available with a subscription, and stops there.
Apple's US in-app purchase list is where the numbers are. On 28 September 2026 it showed the Standard Plan at $15.99 a month, Standard Plan Quarterly at $39.99 and Standard Plan Yearly at $99.99. It also showed a Launch Plan at $9.99 a month and $59.99 a year, a product we have not found on any Nomi page or in any review. The list was identical to the one we read on 6 September.
In yearly terms, Standard billed monthly is $191.88. Prepaying the year cuts that to $99.99, about $8.33 a month, which is Nomi's best rate if you already know you are staying. The Launch Plan yearly works out to about $5 a month, but because Nomi never describes it we cannot tell you what it includes or who is offered it. If it appears on your screen, ask what it leaves out before you choose it over Standard.

Nomi AI free vs paid for a girlfriend
Nomi's free plan is permanent, which is more than most rivals offer, and the wiki gives it a hard number: 50 messages a day. Each message you send is capped at 400 characters on free and 800 on a paid plan. That cap is on what you type, not on her replies.
For a romantic companion the daily cap is the part you will feel. Fifty messages is one real evening conversation, and then she goes quiet until tomorrow. The other free-plan limits are practical rather than emotional. Voice calls are included with paid subscriptions, per the wiki, so a free Nomi girlfriend is text only. Paid accounts can hold up to 10 active Nomis and 10 group chats. Paid users also get more daily selfie and art requests than free users, and can buy credits once those run out.
Put plainly, free Nomi is a good trial of her personality and a poor version of a relationship. If you are reading this because you have hit the 50-message wall, that wall is the product working as designed, and the $15.99 plan is what removes it.

What Nomi credits add on top of the subscription
Nomi sells a second currency called credits, and the subscription does not replace it. Apple's list on 28 September showed five packs: 40 credits for $4.99, 100 for $9.99, 225 for $19.99, 600 for $49.99 and 1,800 for $99.99.
Credits do not meter conversation. Text chat is not charged per message on a paid plan. They pay for extra selfies and art after your daily allowance is spent, and for more Nomi slots and group chat rooms beyond the 10 and 10 a paid account includes. A slot is a one-time purchase, and the wiki says you can reuse it if you delete a Nomi.
For one girlfriend who mostly texts, you may never buy a credit. The bill grows when the relationship becomes visual, with a lot of selfies, or when one Nomi becomes a cast of them.

Does a Nomi girlfriend remember you?
Memory is Nomi's main pitch. Its girlfriend page says she remembers chats from months ago and describes Mind Maps, which show how she connects shared experiences. It also states that reviewers consistently rank Nomi's memory as the best of any AI companion. That is Nomi's claim about third parties, and we have not run a controlled test of it.
What we can say is how the wiki describes the pieces. Calls draw on the same conversation history as text, so she does not become a stranger when you switch to voice. Memory is framed as spanning the relationship rather than a fixed window. None of Nomi's documentation we read gives a different memory size for free and paid users, so unlike Kindroid you are not buying a bigger memory by upgrading. You are buying more conversation for it to remember.
Our honest read is that Nomi's memory reputation is earned in long relationships, which means it pays off most for people who stay past the free cap.

Unfiltered or tasteful, the real choice
This is where Nomi and Tempted.ai want different customers, and it is better to say it before you pay either of us.
Nomi's girlfriend page uses the word unfiltered three times. Its FAQ says conversations are not restricted by arbitrary content filters, and one of the testimonials it chose to publish describes Nomi in terms of NSFW roleplay. If explicit roleplay is what you want, Nomi is built for it and we are not.
Tempted.ai is flirty, warm and deliberately never explicit. Our companions have original illustrated looks, never a real person's face. What we build for is the part of a relationship that happens between the big moments: she texts you good morning, asks how the thing you were dreading went, and remembers that you mentioned it. If that is the relationship you are paying for, a filter-free app does not add anything you will miss.

Refunds, cancelling and the lifetime plan question
Nomi does not offer refunds. Its wiki answers the question with a flat no, points to the permanent free plan as your chance to try before paying, and says subscription purchases are nonrefundable under its terms. If you prepay $99.99 for a year and change your mind in week two, that money is gone.
There is also no lifetime plan. The wiki says Nomi does not offer one because the service has ongoing costs that a single payment would not cover. Any site selling a Nomi lifetime deal is not selling something Nomi sells.
If you bought through Apple or Google, you cancel in that store's subscription settings, not inside Nomi. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access to the end of the period you paid for.

How Tempted.ai compares for the same job
Tempted.ai is narrower than Nomi on purpose. You get one girlfriend rather than a roster, text and voice rather than image generation, and no second currency.

Flame is $19 a month billed yearly or $24 month to month, and adds unlimited texting, texting you first, voice notes and deeper memory. Devoted is $39 a month billed yearly or $49 month to month, and adds voice calls and more than one girlfriend. Billing runs on the web, the charge is discreet on your statement, and you cancel from your account.
Against Nomi Standard at $15.99, Spark is cheaper month to month and Flame at $24 adds unlimited texting and voice notes, while Nomi gives you more features for the money if you want selfies, video and group chats. Against Nomi's yearly $99.99, Spark yearly at $108 is close, so the choice comes down to what you want her to be.

Who should pick Nomi, and who should not
Pick Nomi if you want an unfiltered companion, if you want several companions and group chats, or if selfies and video are a big part of what you enjoy. Its permanent free plan also makes it a sensible first stop if you have never tried an AI girlfriend and want to see whether the idea works for you before spending anything.
Nomi is a weaker fit if you want one steady relationship without rationing messages on the free plan, if you would rather not deal with a second currency, or if a nonrefundable yearly prepay makes you nervous. And if you want a companion who stays tasteful, Nomi's own marketing tells you it is heading somewhere else.
