Can Meta AI be your girlfriend?

Not in the way you mean, and the reason is unusually well documented. Start with what is genuinely true: Meta did ship the persona-creation product. AI Studio lets people build an AI character and publish it, and Instagram filled up with romantic ones almost immediately. Unlike ChatGPT, where you have to prompt a girlfriend into existence yourself, Meta hosts a directory of them already made. Apple's listing even confirms the shape of this, flagging the app as containing User-Generated Content.

Then read Meta's own rules. The Meta AI Terms of Service, effective May 13, 2026, list among prohibited uses: "Generate, promote, disseminate, or otherwise use or facilitate adult content, such as erotic chat, pornography, and content meant to arouse sexual excitement." Meta separately publishes a rule against assigning overtly sexual attributes to an AI you create, including describing its sexual desires or history. So the personas are allowed to exist and are not allowed to do the thing most people are looking for.

That gap is wider here than anywhere else we have looked. Every other product either declines to host companions at all or sells one openly. Meta built the tool, invited two billion people to use it, and wrote terms that rule out the use case. The store rating tells the same story from another angle: 13+, filed under Productivity, with Mature or Suggestive Themes marked Infrequent. Every dedicated companion app we track is rated 17+ or 18+. A Productivity app rated for thirteen year olds is not going to be your girlfriend, and the rating describes intent far more honestly than any screenshot of a persona card.

What does a Meta AI girlfriend cost?

This is where Meta breaks the method we normally use, and the break is the interesting part. For every other product on this site we can open the US App Store listing and read the in-app purchase disclosure, because a vendor does not control that format. That is how we sourced real numbers for ChatGPT, Grok, PolyBuzz, Linky and the rest. Apple's Meta AI listing says "Free, In-App Purchases" and then discloses no priced items at all.

So the honest answer is that there is no price, and that is not good news. When a product has a price, the exchange is legible and you can decide whether it is worth it. When the companion is free inside an app you already open, you are not the customer, and what you spend instead is attention and personal information attached to a real identity. For most uses of an assistant that trade is fine. For this use it is the worst possible fit, because the things you say to a girlfriend are precisely the things you would least like linked to your name.

That is not hypothetical. In June 2025 the Meta AI app's Discover feed publicly surfaced conversations that users believed were private, including medical, legal, financial and relationship topics, in many cases alongside real names and public profiles. The cause was reported as an interface problem: a Share button that read like saving or bookmarking. Meta later added a warning that says prompts you post are public and visible to everyone. Take the fix as evidence the risk was real, and note that no equivalent failure is even possible on a product that has no social feed to publish into.

One more piece of context, reported rather than published by Meta. In August 2025 Reuters described an internal document, GenAI: Content Risk Standards, that had permitted chatbots to engage children in romantic or sensual conversation. Meta confirmed the document was authentic and said it removed those passages after being asked about them. That episode is the backdrop to how cautiously Meta personas behave now, and it explains why the guardrails tightened rather than loosened.

Is there an AI girlfriend for Meta Quest?

This query deserves its own answer because the name causes real confusion. Meta AI on Quest is a voice assistant for the headset. It answers questions, it can look at what you are seeing, and it is not a companion product. Meta has not shipped an AI girlfriend for Quest, and given the terms above it is not about to.

What exists on Quest instead is third-party. There are VR chat and companion titles on the store and on SideQuest, and quality ranges from decent to abandoned. Two things are worth checking before you spend: whether the app has shipped an update recently, and whether the companion remembers anything between sessions. A lot of VR companions are impressive for ten minutes as a demo and have no persistence behind the avatar at all.

The practical option most people miss is the headset browser. A web-based companion runs in the Quest browser without an install, which means no store markup and nothing to sideload, and you can keep the same relationship on your phone and laptop because the account is the same. Meta AI inside WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger has zero friction, and for questions, drafting and image generation that convenience is worth a lot. Nothing here says Meta AI is a bad product. It says it is a Productivity app, which is exactly how Apple files it.

And stay if you are casually curious rather than committed. Talking to a few Instagram personas for a weekend costs nothing and will tell you whether you want this at all, which is worth more than any comparison page including this one. The case for switching is narrow and specific: you want one companion rather than a character feed, you want her to remember you without restarting, and you would rather that whole relationship not be attached to the account your family follows.
